A full page ad for coming in 6th! Let's celebrate mediocrity!

The original full page ad in today's New Straits Times.

The ad headline - celebrating utter mediocrity!

How apt that my first post of the year should be about mediocrity.

Teras, a subsidiary of government-linked UEM, "is the creator, developer, and leading system integrator of TouchNGo and SmarTag in multiple platform technology widely use through out Malaysia as highway, parking and public transportation payment as well as access system by over 3 million users" (their own words, not mine!)

Imagine forking out well over RM15k for a full page ad just to congratulate yourself coming in 6th out of a field of 50. One wonders what expense they would have gone to if they had come out tops!

So this is the corporate culture governing this country when government-linked firms congratulate themselves on coming in 6th and go all out to ensure people are aware of this.

It's a sad start to the new year but just reinforces the state of affairs of local corporate leaders in Malaysia.

Happy 2008 by the way!

Haha, i find the ad funny! In the first place, what award is it? Is it a really prestigious award? If it's like an internationally recognised award & u come out top 10 then i still can accept lah... this one... aiyo.. maybe they jus wan to show d world their affiliation with the minister...
