Theedgedaily.com access barred during office hours

In what must be an effort to shore up sales of its fledgling financial daily "The Edge Financial Daily", publisher Nexnews appears to have barred access to its excellent news website www.theedgedaily.com .

If you click on this link during office hours (defined as anytime the sun is still shining), you will get this rather inelegant message:

Network Error (tcp_error)

A communication error occurred: "Connection refused"
The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.

For assistance, contact your network support team.

Try surfing at night, and as if by magic the site reappears with ahem, today's news.

The Edge Financial Daily is a nice enough paper with the latest on local business developments but there's also a whole lot of regurgitated stuff from Reuters and Bloomberg. Well, at RM1.50 per copy, it's still far cheaper than say the Asian Wall Street Journal or the International Herald Tribune, so I guess beggars can't be choosers.

Bottom line is that couldn't they have adopted the Singapore Business Times' format of daytime access by paying subscribers and free access after 6pm.
